slow animations

As a disabled artist, I believe that the disabled perceive time more accurately. Emphasizing glitch, I have created animations that are slow in regard to traditional animation. The work employs digital paintings as still frames for what are referred to as “slow animations”. These are animations that use the duration of a screenshot to create the illusion that the timing between frames is being manipulated and is varied. The frames are succinct and as mathematical as the paintings, and they do not vary.  I use John Cage’s chance operations to pull the images “from the stacks” within project folders, allowing the works to form organically and without control except with minimal parameters, like the screenshot long stills. Alan Kushan composes the music for the works with no limits, other than the image as reference for the sound, and sometimes from his own imagination before the image is built.
